Vietnam faces some of the biggest economic challenges following six consecutive years of GDP growth averaging at 8% per annum. Annual inflation has been in the double digits for seven straight months - soaring to 25.2 per cent in May 2008. In addition, the trade deficit has widened and sparked fears of the devaluation of the dong.
Despite the challenges, the underlying market fundamental for real estate remains strong in Vietnam. These include a predominantly young population, growing middle class and a rising in flow of expatriates and rapid urbanization. With effect from January 2009, foreigners are allowed to own apartments for 50 years, and this adds some 21,000 potential buyers to domestic demands. In the meantime, occupancy for grade A office buildings remains full with no new supply in sight.
About Synergy International Events Pte
SYNERGY International Events Pte is helmed by Rayner Au, a veteran with 30 years' experience in organising trade fairs, conferences, publishing and advertising. He was one of the two most active founders of Interfama, Singapore's pioneer indigenous trade fair and conference organiser, in 1974. The same year, the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board (STPB) set up the Singapore Convention Bureau(SCB) to take the industry to a professional level and to market Singapore as a convention city in Asia.
Rayner Au has organised more than 100 specialised trade fairs and exhibitions in Singapore and Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Seoul and Tokyo. These events separately focused on environmental protection, water and waste water management, electrical and electronics engineering, medicine and hospitals, building and construction, energy and power generation, materials handling and transportation, textiles and garments, printing and packaging, agriculture, sporting goods and boating, industrial automation and information technology. Some of these trade fairs have attained international certification by Union de Foire Internationales(UFI) and a number of them still exist today, albeit under different brand names.
He played a vital role in developing a trade fair concept focusing on Vietnam's infrastructure development, to be held in Hanoi in November 2007. During the course of his extensive research in Vietnam, he identified the technologies that would advance Vietnam's nation building and economic development. As a result, he gained considerable insight into Vietnam's infrastructure and real estate industry.
