The Matilda Sedan Chair Race Charities Fund in association with anna fang public relations collaborated with City University of Hong Kong's Professional Communication Project during 2004-2005.

In March, the student team for the Matilda Sedan Chair Race submitted an entry to the APEX Awards™ (USA) Competition for 2005. They entered "The PR and Publicity Programme for the Matilda Sedan Chair Race" in the "Special Purpose Campaign, Programs, Plans" Category. As a result of the entry they submitted on behalf of the Matilda Sedan Chair Race Charities Fund, the entry won an Award of Excellence!

The PR and Publicity Programme for the event under the direction of Anna Fang had an estimated US$300,000 (HK$2.2 million) in media and advertising value and reached over 22 million people. Media or advertising value is based upon how much it would cost to purchase an advertisement for the same size of article which is published. The outstanding amount of media value was highlighted by a 9-minute segment on Phoenix TV about the Sedan Chair Race.

APEX Awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence.

With close to 5,000 entries, competition was exceptionally intense. 100 Grand Awards were presented to honour outstanding work in all 11 major categories with 1,523 Awards of Excellence recognising exceptional entries in 109 subcategories.

Most of the entries were from the US and Canada, and City University's entry was among a few from overseas, specifically, Hong Kong. Also submitting a winning entry was the Hong Kong Association of Business and Professional Women.
