BPW International wins 2008 Award of Excellence
for its website – www.bpw-international.org

(Bangkok, September 2008) The Awards for Publication Excellence™ (APEX- USA) announced that the International Federation of Business and Professional Women (IFBPW) has won an Award of Excellence for its website - www.bpw-international.org under the category of “most improved web or intranet site”. Of special interest, is the microsite built for the upcoming BPW International Congress to be held in Mexico on October 24-28 and the mentoring web section which showcases the mentoring and skills training programs in over 20 countries.

The International Federation of Business and Professional Women (also known as BPW International) was founded by Dr. Lena Madesin Phillips in 1930. BPW International was one of the first women's organisations to be granted Consultative Status with the United Nations in 1947.
Through its connection with the United Nations, BPW International has become one of the most influential international women's organisations. BPW International has representatives at three UN Headquarters in New York, Geneva and Vienna, and at UN regional offices in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and West Asia. BPW members can also attend UN meetings as observers and are invited to give statements at various UN meetings.
BPW International has about 25,000 members in 90 member countries and is known for its career development, leadership development, legislative, educational, personal development and capacity-building projects in each country. In pursuit of the aim to "develop professional and leadership potentials for women at all levels", BPW affiliates and members have helped over 200,000 women to help themselves during the past twelve years.
APEX™ 2008 Awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence. APEX™ Grand Awards honor the outstanding works in each main category while APEX™ Awards of Excellence recognize exceptional entries in each of the sub-categories.
Naturally, entries in design categories were judged solely on the basis of their graphic design, and writing entries were evaluated primarily on the basis of editorial quality.
4,479 entries from around the world were evaluated, in the following distribution: Newsletters: 490; Magazines and Journals: 837; Magapapers and Newspapers: 139; Annual Reports: 241; Brochures, Manuals and Reports: 501; Electronic and Video Publications: 231; Web and Intranet Sites: 309; Campaigns, Programs and Plans: 286; Writing: 745; Design and Illustration: 504; and Special Publications: 196.
The majority of entries were from US and Canada, and a few of the entries were from Hong Kong and Thailand.
A total of 120 APEX Grand Awards were presented in 11 major categories to honor the outstanding works in those categories. 1,393 APEX Awards of Excellence recognize excellence in 110 individual categories.
The Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX™) is sponsored by the editors of Writing That Works and The Business Communications Report in the USA. This is the 20th year of the Awards for Publication Excellence.
